ROBOVAX is a self-contained system, from vaccine storage and handling, to injection loading and administration, patient registration and logging, follow up reporting and checks, testing, staff accommodation and transport.
The design of the system is such that patients do not directly interact with the robot machinery. Injections are safely administered by a collaborative robot, one which can sense pressure, and in a booth to maintain safe separation from the patient. Patients are uniquely identified, and data managed to ensure correct dosing & duration between multi-dose vaccines. The booths are automatically cleansed. Robots load & dispose of injectables in a hygienic way and with higher accuracy than manual systems. Novel injection methods are being investigated, to improve both the administration of the injection and for greater patient comfort and acceptance.

ROBOVAX developer, Reflex Motion Control, is a company based in Johannesburg, South Africa that has been providing robotic services to the film industry for over 25 years.
Reflex has specialist skills in managing the logistics and operating robots in remote locations. The ROBOVAX idea was born out of this skillset, to solve a pressing problem in achieving rapid immunisation in Africa. The concept has application in developing nations and will extend beyond the immediate Covid-19 crisis to other medical sectors.
